save the world with small changes!

Hello! I'm Scarlett! I am a fan of all things save the world! This blog is all about saving the world with the smallest changes that you  can do in your home!
These are solar panels. They are a simple thing that usually are attached to a roof of a house. But they have secret properties. Where I live there is a small field of them, they catch the sun and turn it into energy to power almost anything that you could otherwise use Electricity for! This next idea is something I use myself! Using a piece of string as long as you need for the distance required, get 2 tin cans, ( or using plastic cups, though with cans you would be recycling!) Make sure to wash the cans out first, drill a hole in the bottom of the can just big enough for the string to slip through, slip the string through the hole and tie a not to stop it from slipping back. It should look like this,
That is the tin can telephone! It's a great project to do with the kids and they can design and stick on their own artwork on the sides as a personal touch! this project I found worked really well! hope I've been helpful so far!( you speak into the cans and the sound comes along the string so you can here others voices far away!)
The time of year has just passed when you can see creative pumpkins all along the street next to the houses! Glowing in the dark they are quite a site, but, have you ever thought when carving a Pumpkin what a waste the seeds are? This idea will make you wish you had never thrown them away!
These are toasted Pumpkin seeds! I got the idea of many sites! you'd be surprised how many people use their leftover seeds for this very purpose! This is how you make, Toasted Pumpkin seed snack^ just like in the photo above! Sweet and spicy toasted pumpkin seeds.
Here are a couple  of ways to go about toasting pumpkin seeds. I should mention, that in addition to the way some people I know  make them, there is also an extended cooking technique as well. If you have more time and patience, you can boil the seeds in salted water for roughly 10 minutes before draining and proceeding with the rest of the instructions (scale back on the salt called for in the individual recipes). Your seeds will have a nice crunch to them, and more balanced salt distribution. That being said, most usually skip this step . There are a million ways to season your freshly toasted pumpkin seeds in addition to the ones the usual plain and simple ones you may have heard of like simply seasoning your seeds with some salt or pepper - raid your spice drawer, and use your imagination.
 Ingredients,
1 egg white
1/4 cup natural cane sugar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
scant 1/2 teaspoon fine grained sea salt
1 cup fresh pumpkin seeds
Popular method. Here below is the most used method I know for this particular recipe.

Preheat oven to 375. In a medium-sized bowl whisk together the egg white, sugar, cayenne and salt. Add the pumpkin seeds and toss well. Drain off any excess egg white (using a strainer) and place seeds in a single layer across a baking sheet. Bake for about 12 minutes or until seeds are golden. Sprinkle with a bit more sugar and cayenne pepper when they come out of the oven. Taste and season with more salt if needed.

Black Tea and Butter Pumpkin seeds.
You can use many different types of tea here. I would opt for a smoky black one, but you can go for one infused with other flavours, or even ti sanes (  dried lime tea would be interesting in this recipe). Choose a tea that is fragrant and has a pronounced flavour for best results.
 Ingredients.

1 teaspoon (black) tea
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
 scant
1/2 teaspoon fine grained sea salt
1 cup fresh pumpkin seeds

Using a mortar and pestle or spice grinder, grind the tea into a fine powder. Set aside.
In a medium-sized bowl combine the butter and salt. Add the pumpkin seeds and toss well. Place seeds in a single layer across a baking sheet. Bake for about 12 minutes or until seeds are golden. Sprinkle with the ground tea. Taste and season with more salt if needed.

Well that's all folks! Just joking there's lots more home bake recipes out there that I can teach you! thanks for reading!
Hello! Today I'm going to teach you all about these...( look below... there's more ways to cook them than you'd think!)
So, as you can see these are Chestnuts! You may think that there is but one way to cook them, the famous, Roasted Chestnuts. But recently I've undertaken the trial and error of cooking them ( And eating them) a different way to the usual! I'd read somewhere that boiling Chestnuts was a quicker and nicer way to cook them with healthier rewards that roasting over the traditional fire. The effects of smoke, even in shelled foods, has more cons than pros to recommend that style for you're Chestnuts. I went out and collected a nice load of them to boil, I had the idea that by picking them yourself they somehow taste better than the shop bought regular Chestnuts. Call me crazy but I think it gives the Chestnuts a more intimate  feel if you cook and collect them yourself! So lets actually get to the recipe now!
Ingredients
One pound Chestnuts, ( Or however many  want or need.)
Method.
Decide on however many Chestnuts you want or need. Get a a chopping board and a small knife. Get one Chestnut, lay it down on the chopping board making sure to safely hold it down from slipping with one hand. Get the small knife and and lightly make  an 'x' shape on the easiest side to for you to cut. Make sure that you don't actually cut all through the Chestnut flesh but just enough of a cut to get through the sometimes tough shell. Do this with all the Chestnuts and put them in a bowl or simply on the side. Next step is to get a a pot to boil the Chestnuts in preferably a metal one? that's how I boiled mine! get some hot water and fill it just enough to fully cover the Chestnuts and still have a bit extra just because it will cover them and boil them nicely! leave them with the lid on for 5 to 10 minute periods but keep checking them every say... 2 minutes  and turn the heat to a 3 depending on the type of stove you have in relevance to the temperature. You should cook them for 20-30 minutes and then they'll be done hopefully! Check that there cooked by getting a knife and lightly stabbing the flesh! Make sure that you only stab through the shell and not through the whole thing!

So I'm back! After a month away from blogging I'm finally back! This time around I'm going to give some inspirational  tips on the best fun craft, cooking and making for all the family! First lets start with a new year themed idea.....
First off, ( PLEASE READ EVERYTHING!)
 1. You will need Ribbon! different colours would be ideal such as green checked ribbon but you can have the same colour and it would still work! ( with thanks to this site for the picture above ^ here is the link to their wonderful site) check it
 out it's a great site!....http://www.firefliesandmudpies.com/
2. Second of all, you will need a twig/stick to tie the Ribbon bows onto! Preferably a strong twig/stick that wont snap as you tie the Ribbon on!

3. Next cut your chosen pieces of Ribbon into the size you want it for the size of Xmas tree you are making!
4. Choose a pattern, if you want, of how you tie the Ribbon in place, example, green, checked cloth, then dark green! But this is only a suggestion, it's not a must do!
 5. Finally, tie the Ribbon in place tightly! You don't want it falling off!
6. ( TOP TIP!) When you make these, you will most likely want to hang them up once you have finished creating them, so make sure to tie a piece of strong twine/string round the top of the stick! make sure to tie it so that the string is in a loop at the top so you can hang it! ( ANOTHER TOP TIP) As pictured ^ above in the Xmas mini tree, As you reach the top with the Ribbon, tie smaller Ribbons round the tree so you give it a more realistic feel!
I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS WONDERFUL CRAFT!
And you are done! The great thing about these, I thought..... Was the fact that whether it's summer, winter or any season, you can choose different colours to fit the surrounding and the season and make as many as you want in a very short space of time, But still it's a fun family activity! ;D
I'll be back soon!

                                                         A new day! ( yay! )
